Child protection

Child abuse & neglect reporting

Mass. Gen. Laws ch. 119, § 51A

When the law’s reasonable-cause threshold is met in a professional capacity, a mandated reporter must immediately report orally to DCF and file a written report within 48 hours. The current law says prenatal substance exposure alone does not meet this reporting requirement.

School safety

School bullying & cyberbullying

Mass. Gen. Laws ch. 71, § 37O

Schools must maintain bullying prevention and intervention plans. Cyberbullying outside school can be covered when it creates a hostile school environment, infringes on school rights, or materially disrupts education.
