What a source-check date means

A source-check date records when a linked source was consulted. It does not guarantee that a platform setting is still in the same place, a law remains enforceable, or a guide has received expert approval. Qualified legal, medical, and safeguarding review is pending unless a page explicitly identifies a completed review.

How we label state updates

  • Proposed: a bill or proposal, not an enacted requirement.
  • Enacted: adopted legislation; the effective date and any limits still matter.
  • Effective: a specified provision's start date, checked against the source.
  • Court decision: a dated order that may be affected by later proceedings.
  • Explainer: background education, not a report that the law changed this week.

Legal updates link to official sources and distinguish the publication date from the date of the event. We do not describe a quiet search as proof that nothing changed.

Corrections

If a link breaks, a setting moves, or a summary seems inaccurate, email [email protected] with the page address and the correction. Please do not include passwords, a child's private details, or descriptions of a specific incident. We review the source and update the affected page; material corrections should explain what changed.
